Today I'm excited to share my beach-y,
summer mantle with you.
summer mantle with you.
My kids may have returned to school this week, but it's still 90 degrees outside...and Fall is still a ways off. It's not too late to enjoy a summery mantle! Don't you just love the colors of summer?!
Coral, turquoise, pink...they bring to mind flirty sundresses, Florida sunsets, sandy beaches and
sweet smelling flowers!
Combined with the earthy textures of seashells, burlap and driftwood...
it really does evoke a sense of being at the beach.
I'm a big believer in bringing beauty to the ordinary, and my summer mantle is just one example of how I accomplish this in my home.
I'm a big believer in bringing beauty to the ordinary, and my summer mantle is just one example of how I accomplish this in my home.
I layered my beach-y, summer mantle with a pallet board and created an easy drop cloth bunting
to drape over the top. My bunting took just minutes to make. I used stamps for the letters and black paint and then hot glued each piece onto a long length of jute. You can follow my tutorial from this banner I made last year if you'd like to make your own. That one was made out of burlap; but the concept is the same.
My little trio of driftwood boats were made last summer before I was a blogger.
Every time I look at them I am reminded of the vacation we took {with my brothers and their families
in Canada} where I collected the driftwood.
Yes..they have driftwood in Canada. Beaches too, lol!
These striped mason jars were painted with DIY chalk paint in three dreamy, summery colors. Did you notice that only the middle jar is an authentic Ball jar? The other two are simple spaghetti jars (shh)! Bringing beauty to the ordinary, remember! The chalkboard labels were ones I found at Michaels and wrapped around the jars using jute twine. I love chalk paint and the total transformation it can bring about! You might enjoy seeing some of the inexpensive silver trays I transformed with chalk paint. It can make old things look new...or new things look old. It's that versatile!
Collected shells and driftwood from our vacations as a family keep those memories alive every time I look at my summer mantle! Talk about thrifty decorating...there's nothing better than free!
This mantle will be easy to transition to Fall decor because of all the earthy colors and texture. I'll just substitute the pinks and blues for pumpkins and pine cones!
bringing beauty to the ordinary,

ReplyDeleteYour mason jars are very cute. I bet they'd look very cute with a solid, a striped, and a tinted one put together with a bow and flowers, all different sizes. I may just give that a try. Love the beachy theme...

Oh boy, there's so much to like: rose gold jewelry, comfy clothing and great throw-backs to the 80's. And I've been looking for a hammock for a while now.
