Chalkboard Ornaments
Tis the Season...for Chalkboard Ornaments!
This year when I was getting ready for Christmas, I tried to think outside the box. Which can sometimes be hard for me because I'm a visual person. I usually have to see something before I can make it and do it justice.
I have had these chipboard Christmas shapes (see similar here) for awhile. They've hung out in my "stash". I've used them here and there on scrapbook pages, as banners and in other ways.
This year however, I finally knew what I really wanted to do with the ones I had remaining! I decided to give them all a few coats of chalkboard spray paint and make little chalkboards with them!!
Brilliant, right?! LOL!
Three coats did the trick.
Then I seasoned them with chalk and got to work making them pretty.
I simply outlined them and gave them each a Christmas-y saying. The snowflakes got words like 'Frosty', 'Brr' and 'Snow'. while the ornaments and trees had a little more space on them so I could write longer phrases like 'Let it Snow', 'Joy to the World', and 'Deck the Halls'.
Each one got a bright red bow on top with cute ribbon. I tied the bows first and then hot-glued them on. The hanging loop is a piece of red and white baker's twine that I strung through the hole at the top of each ornament before gluing the bows on.
The snowflakes were displayed in the drawers of this jewelry cabinet that I painted with white chalk paint, distressed, numbered and waxed.
I think they look charming peeking out of the drawers...like a little surprise.
I even added a few as centers to some burlap wreaths that I made.
And the red gingham ribbon again the burlap...WOW, I love it! It was a little hard to hang them on my mini tree...I just wanted to leave them there :)
But onto the tree they went, and I love them there too! Festive!
This was such a fun and easy project! And the best part...they can be erased and new sayings written on next year...or doodles or my kid's names or whatever I feel like putting on them...that's the beauty of chalkboards :)
Just remember when you're using chalkboard spray paint - three light coats is better than 1 or 2 heavy coats...it doesn't take that long to dry in between coats.
We just might get some snow this week...how about you? Is it beginning to look like Christmas where you live??
