Planting Herbs and Flowers
Planting my Herb Garden
Did you make it to the Home Depot Black Friday sale?
I actually didn't even know it was going on until I stopped in to pick up some paint.
When I realized all the herbs were 5 for $10 I went a little crazy!
Well, not really...but I did buy enough to replant my herb bed. Normally the herbs are $4 a piece, so
this was a really good buy. I love herbs ;)

In our family Mr. Diy plants the garden and I do the herbs and flowers.
I don't really love gardening like Mr. Diy does. He gets so excited when it's time to pick out his
tomato plants each year.
tomato plants each year.
For me, it's herbs and flowers...the pretty and smelly (in a good way) stuff ;)
I cook a lot with herbs and really miss my plants in the winter months. This summer I'll share some of my recipes with you. Basil and parsley play prominent roles. I used them when I made my yummy and easy Bruschetta Bread recipe. That's why I bought 2 plants of each. I probably use them every day. I also bought Lavender, Lemon Balm, Italian Oregano, Lemon Oregano (it smells SO good!), and Chocolate Mint. The only plant that survived in my herb garden from last year is my Thyme. I'll also plant Rosemary, Dill and Cilantro later on.
My herb garden is a little patch of ground that my guys dug up for me last summer and edged. It's just off the patio, adjacent to a back sidewalk. It's the perfect place because it gets a lot of sun, but better yet, it's close to the kitchen!

There's a gorgeous Bradford Pear tree right next to it, which happens to be in full bloom right now.
Uh yeah, please ignore the weeds...gotta deal with those soon! Our back yard opens onto a greenbelt so it's like one big backyard that we share with our neighbors...which is nice (the openness) but bad because we all share our weeds with each other!
While I was at Home Depot, I couldn't resist picking up a small Pansy and Viola. I planted them with the Chocolate Mint in a large pot. Pansies and violas are cool weather flowers so once the hot weather hits they'll be done, but the mint will fill the pot. It smells kind of like a York Peppermint Patty!
While we're on the topic of flowers, I just have to show you some pictures of my beautiful daffodils. Last fall I bought a variety bag at Walmart as well as some crocuses and tulips and my oldest son planted them for me. They are coming up and we have new varieties blooming every day.
Here are the ones that were blooming today...
Aren't they beautiful! I love the colors and the variety...can't wait to seem what blooms tomorrow!
And I can't wait to show you my herb garden in a couple months when it's all filled in.
What about you? Do you grow herbs? What are your favorites?
bringing beauty to the ordinary,
Sharing with these great parties:
