July 4th Ribbon Pin and a Patriotic Hanging
If you love paper and ribbon crafts, these are for you!
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Craftiness...
I may be Canadian...but I'm pretty sure that statement is in the Declaration of Independence somewhere!! Isn't it??
I've lived in the US of A for over 16 years now, so I feel I'm pretty much an honorary American...I've sang the National Anthem with gusto at ball games and school ceremonies (hand over heart so I wouldn't stand out)...I've flown the flag from my home and recognized all the US holidays.
I've even made a bunch of crafts that celebrate July Fourth!!
I'm sharing two DIY Patriotic crafts today that I made a few years ago...pre-blogger days...so I don't have step by step tutorial pictures for you.
But hey...at least I have pictures, right??
This first one is a Ribbon Pin that you can make and wear on your t-shirt on July 4th. It was super easy to make. I took several coordinating ribbons and looped them. Where they met at the back I glued them onto a large white fabric flower. I varied the sizes of the ribbons and overlapped them a little for texture and interest. Then I cut a felt circle and glued that over all the ribbon ends at the back to make it neat. A flat craft pin was also glued in place. You can see how I embellished it with another flower and buttons.
I'm showing it on a blue shirt but it would look equally as cute on a red or white shirt.
This next craft is a vintage-inspired collage piece I made to hang on a door. It's full of lots of goodies.
The base is a chipboard scallop circle that I covered in scrapbook paper (blue with white stars). I then ink-stained a roll of white crepe paper to give it a vintage look and folded it into pleats and hot glued it to the back of the chipboard. Crepe paper is a wonderful and cheap medium to work with; at Christmas I make ruffled crepe paper trees with it.
The top is a collage of a vintage bingo card, a mini star cookie cutter, lace and mini pom pom trim, buttons, stickers, hearts and stars and...well, you can see for yourself! I've even sewed on it.
I love working with paper crafts and embellishments to make home decor that's unique and pleasing to the eye! It's a great way to be creative and play :)
Maybe you're inspired to make something like this for your own home.
Below are some products from Amazon (affiliate links) that I sourced for you if you want to make something similar. I couldn't find a scallop circle but I did find a great little banner. It has 4 pages so you could make each page a letter and spell out J U L Y and then put a large 4 on the Y...just an idea!
I've included the glue (FabriTac) that I use for all my scrapbooking and fabric fixes without sewing. It's a great, washable glue!
Okay friends, thanks for letting me share my Fourth of July crafts with you today. Independence Day will be here before we know it!! Are you planning anything special?
