A couple weeks ago I was sorting through stuff for our community yard sale.

At the same time, I was crafting like a mad woman for my booth in a local craft show. It caused me to look at items I was ready to discard with a new eye because I needed more pieces.

Take these prints for instance. They were adorable in their time, but I decided to remake them into suitable decor for that long stretch between September and December.

I started off by brushing on a layer of Mod Podge to each print and then laid down pre-cut dictionary sheets. I like the matte Mod Podge.


Here's a DIY tip...the amount of Mod Podge you see above was a little too generous, lol! Go easy on the craft glue :) One nice thin coat is better than a puddle!


You can see that it took 4 sheets of dictionary paper to cover my artwork (I cut the bottom two down a little). I lined up the columns and glued it around the edges.

Then I added a layer of Mod Podge to the top of the dictionary paper.

However, I will tell you that I used Jen Rizzo's tutorial for how to paint a pumpkin to create my own. It's easy, fun and she walks you through the process. I've done it for so many projects now that I don't even need to refer to her instructions anymore.

So, with paint palette in hand and a slew of brushes, I painted two slightly different pumpkins onto my dried dictionary canvas.

Once those dried, I added big black polka dots, using a paint dauber. These just add some extra drama to the pieces.


I love how the dictionary paper shows through but is a subtle background.


The backs still have their original hanging hardware, so they'll be really cute hung up in someone's home.
