Decorating a Festive Christmas Mantle
Do you feel it yet?
the Magic of Christmas?
the Anticipation...and excitement?
the Magic of Christmas?
the Anticipation...and excitement?
This week I got serious about Christmas!
I played Christmas music, lit the cinnamon scented candles, and (in between all the other stuff), I managed to squeeze in some time to decorate my mantle.
Adding the falalalala lala la to my home and setting the stage has the magical ability to fill me with Christmas spirit, even when I'm tired!
I love sitting by the tree, enjoying a cup of hot cider, while the Christmas tunes play in the background (Michael Buble holiday is my station of choice right now on Pandora).
The rest of the house has been decorated for awhile. I saved my mantle for last.
Mostly because I was waiting for Hobby Lobby to mark their Christmas down to 50% off! I'm a bargain shopper to the core...you'll find the supply list at the end of this post.
I find when decorating a mantle, it's best to do it in layers, otherwise it can become very overwhelming!
I started with some basics - two small Christmas trees in white urns, two mercury glass candlesticks and the piece de resistance...a large gold frame with a plaid insert. I wasn't able to use my burlap trees on the mantle this year because there just wasn't room! That's okay though, I found another spot for them! This picture shows you what I started with (minus the burlap trees on the ends).
The first layer that I added was real cedar from my yard. I clipped several branches and stuck them in a pail of water for a couple hours, hoping that might help them stay fresh longer. I simply tucked them in around the larger
elements, making sure they were laying the same direction.
Oh my, do they smell good!
The cedar greens were topped with just a couple gorgeous and life-like
Christmas stems that I found on sale. I placed the larger of these in the middle, and tucked
the other berry stems among the cedar greenery.
If you know me, I couldn't have a festive mantle without a cute garland!
These white and red pom pom garlands add a softer texture and a bit of
fun to my otherwise mostly traditional Christmas mantle.
The next layer were these cute burlap star lights (you can still find them at World Market). I've had them for a couple years and like to use them in a different place each Christmas.
The last element to layer on my festive Christmas mantle was my ribbon. I used a large gingham check ribbon and first wound it around a large dowel so I'd have some great loops. Then I added it to the mantle, and tweaked the placement, tucking it under and over other elements so it would look natural.
I love how the red and white complement one another! The fresh white tulips with the frosted berries, and a touch of burlap...it's definitely merry over here!
I haven't mentioned the white tulips in mercury glass vases yet, but they are the element that takes this festive holiday mantle over the top! They are real flowers from ProFlowers, an FTD company! They arrived carefully packaged and with explicit care instructions for tulips so that I'd be able to enjoy them for the longest time.
If you've never used real flowers on a mantle, I encourage you to try it. They are beautiful and add such a fresh touch to my festive mantle! I love how the white tulips pop against the red and green. Here are some coupons and discounts from ProFlowers for you to use, whether you buy fresh flowers for yourself or as a gift for someone special.
Finally, I attached my coffee filter wreath to the gold frame and hung it from fishing line using this trick for hanging wreaths.
Here is the supply list for the products I used (Affiliate links are included for your convenience. You will find my full disclosure policy here).
