When you have a Silhouette machine (or a Cricut), pretty much anything is possible! Especially when it comes to Rae Dunn.
It's a piece of cake to make your own Rae Dunn inspired anything, like these cute Easter eggs that I've dubbed "Resurrection" eggs because of the words I chose to include.
I've received a lot of questions about how I made these, so much so I decided I'd include a quick tutorial.
SUPPLIES
- diecut machine like a Silhouette or Cricut (quick tip: if you are in the market for one of these machines, do yourself a favor and purchase a bundle...you will get so much extra stuff that will help you to start creating right away!)
- black craft vinyl (tip about vinyl: they're not all created equal! Oracal 651 is permanent, and the best quality that I've found!)
- transfer paper
- scraper tool or even a credit card
- dozen white craft eggs
HOW TO MAKE RAE DUNN INSPIRED EASTER EGGS
Open your Silhouette Studio or Cricut Software and type the words that you want to use. I have found that The Skinny font is a very close replica to the Rae Dunn large letters font. I made my words about 1.25" tall.Cut words out onto black craft vinyl.
Transfer paper is absolutely essential in transferring your words to the eggs!! If you don't use it, you'll be trying to line up each individual letter and that can be extremely tricky!
I shared detailed instructions for adhering a word onto a rounded object in this post. Please refer to that now, it is the very same process for the Easter eggs. Trust me, those snips will make this project so easy and your words will be straight and lined up properly!
I love these Easter eggs tucked into moss, but I'm sure you'll have great display ideas!
I used additional eggs in my repurposed craft cabinet in the kitchen.
I think they're a perfect accompaniment to my Rae Dunn mugs, and they fit right in with my modern farmhouse home!

ReplyDeleteThank you Ivory!
DeleteI have a question and not necessarily about the eggs. when using this font and trying to enlarge the width the font loses it's look. is there a trick that I'm missing. I'm new to this.
ReplyDeleteYou can bold it. Or just make sure when enlarging to grab the corner of the text box and pull from there... otherwise you can get a wonky look! Hope that helps!
DeleteBeautiful and inspirational, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI can't wait to make a few of these! This is probably a silly question....did you use real eggs?? Or did you purchase these, and if so where?
ReplyDeleteNever mind, just saw on your list that they're craft eggs. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, happy crafting!
