Welcome to this month's installment of the Thrifty Style Team! We are a group of thrifty-lovin-do-it-yourself-ers, and we love sharing our ideas with you on the first Wednesday of every month!

You'll find the links to each original post below, but first let's take a closer look at how I put together this beautiful flower arrangement for under $10!

I have been so impressed with the quality of faux flowers that I've been seeing lately! I recently shared some incredibly real looking faux tulips that I purchased, and today's arrangement was an even better steal!

Keep reading for my sources and tips!

Instagram is a huge source of inspiration for me, and I loved this pitcher of faux flowers by Natalie at Vintage Porch. This was my inspiration for my own floral arrangement. Natalie is a huge lover of saving money too, and her arrangement was very inexpensive...she used flowers from the dollar store! Wouldn't these colors be perfect for fall?

inspiration

I headed to my local DollarTree to see what I could come up with.

Supplies Needed for a Cottage Flower Arrangement

supplies

  • 4-5 bunches of flowers in complimentary colors (I chose creamy white roses, butter yellow roses and a bunch of white asters) If your store doesn't have a great selection, you can purchase them online here.
  • 3 single stem flowers for a punch of color (I used these flowers)
  • 1-2 greenery picks (this is the one I used)
  • pitcher
Tip: purchase items in odd numbers for a more pleasing arrangement!

buttery yellow roses

These buttery yellow roses are from the DollarTree!!! I love that they are offering so many more beautiful products these days! You can even fluff them and bend the stems slightly to give a more realistic look! I definitely think mixing up your florals will give a more realistic, beautiful look!

* the 4 floral bunches above were from DollarTree, but I needed something different so I shopped Hobby Lobby for the pink flowers and the greenery. Total money spent = $8 plus tax!!!

Tip: shop Hobby Lobby when florals are all on sale to save a bunch!

When choosing a vessel for your floral arrangement, there are a few things to consider:

  • Do you want your arrangement to be full and 'tight' or droopy and loose?
  • Are your stems all the same size or do you have some stems that are shorter?
  • Is the greenery realistic enough to display, or are you wanting to hide it?

My floral bunches from DollarTree had beautiful flowers, but the greenery was quite plastic-y looking, so I wanted my flowers to be bunched tightly together to disguise the greenery as much as possible! But I still wanted a loose, cottagey type feel to the arrangement.

I also was using the pink ranunculus picks, which have shorter stems, and I needed to have my flowers close together so they could be tucked into the other flowers and stay put.

The large ironstone pitcher I used has an opening of about 4.5-5", which was perfect for holding the flowers snugly together, without them looking squashed.

The lighter colors provide a beautiful neutral backdrop for the pretty pink! I love a bit of pink in the spring, and this inexpensive arrangement doesn't disappoint!

farmhouse living room

I love it in our shabby farmhouse living room! With all the white and lighter colors in here, it adds a pretty punch of pink!

These do not look like dollar store flowers!

I just purchased these affordable silk peonies and will probably tuck one or two into this arrangement when they arrive! I hope you're inspired to create your own stunning floral arrangement from shopping discount stores!
