Blue and White Fall Decor and New Pine Hutch
Blue and white for Fall? It's the perfect pairing when you combine it with a warm pine hutch and other blue and white accessories!
I love blue and white. It's my favorite color combo and has been for many
years. Rather than hiding away my blue and white decor for Fall, I decided to
incorporate it into my Fall decorating in our front sitting room!
Welcome to the Ready for Fall Home Tour hosted by Vicki and Jenn of
2 Bees in a Pod. We
have all been busy decorating our homes for the fall season extra early to
give you time to gain inspiration! I've already shared my Fall mantel
decorated with rich Autumn colors, you can check it out
HERE. If you popped over here from
Postcards From the Ridge, welcome! Angie's ideas are always so inspiring and I'm sure you loved her
copper and blue Fall decor! You'll find links to the entire tour at the end of
my post.

Ideas for Blue and White Fall Decorating
I have a serious problem. I am a dish addict! There, I said it 😍
Yep, I cannot help myself from collecting beautiful dishes when I spot them at
the thrift store. Specifically white ironstone and blue and white transferware
(although I'll admit there are more dishes in my collection than just those!)
They're all from thrift stores literally around the country (because we've
lived in 5 different states and 2 different countries - you can
read more about our journey here).
I've already filled my black hutch in our
dining room
with white ironstone, and I have been on the hunt for a pine hutch to put in
our sitting room. That room was feeling a little stale, and needed a pop of
warm wood. Plus - I really needed more space for my dishes!
I was so excited to find this pine hutch on FB Marketplace recently. It's a
little more primitive than what I wanted, but when I filled it up with dishes,
I love it! I may still do a
lime wash effect
on the hutch to tone down the color of the wood a little bit, but for now I'm
enjoying it as is!
The smaller size of the hutch made it perfect for our
sitting room, located across from our dining room at the front of our home. This room
doesn't get used much, so I've made it extra pretty! I love looking across and
seeing that pretty wood! Previously this room housed all painted furniture,
and I was ready for a little break. I'll show you in a bit where I moved the
robin's egg blue cabinet that was in this spot.
You can read all about our
staircase makeover
and our
farmhouse floors
that Mr DIY and our son Kyle installed last year; it was a great pandemic
lockdown project! We are now a carpet-free home, and it's been great for our
allergies!
I also switched out the
pink table
in our entryway for this pretty one, the first piece of furniture where I ever
refinished the wood top. It just fits in the space to the side of our front door.
A
wood dough bowl
filled with cotton bolls and a
white pip berry garland
adds simple Fall feels to the table top.
When I was going through my home and changing out the summer decor for Fall, I
just moved all my blue stuff to this room because I knew I wanted to showcase
my blue and white dishes in my new pine hutch!
My
blue gingham pillows and
blue throw ended up here, as well as the
thrift store berry wreath that I spray painted blue
this spring.
In this corner I added some white pumpkins and my
DIY drop cloth pumpkins
to a wood trug and a tarnished silver urn that I found for $1!!! I can't wait
to share the DIY crocheted pumpkins with you soon, they're so easy and you
don't need to know how to crochet, promise!

Let's take a closer look at the pine hutch, and the pretty blue and white
dishes and fall decor that I added to the shelves.
Rather than filling the hutch with blue and white dishes, I used the blue and
white more as accents. Can you believe all those dishes were found at thrift
stores? I think the most I paid for anything was $15. In full disclosure, not
all the white dishes are genuine ironstone (some of the pitchers are HomeGoods
clearance finds!), but all together they make such a beautiful statement.
That is a great tip for anyone looking to build a white ironstone
collection - use pieces that mimic ironstone to fill in the gaps!
Oh, did you spot those gorgeous glass-like blue and white pumpkins? Those are a brand new dollar store DIY that I'll be sharing soon! I love the subtle nod to fall, and how they match my dishes perfectly! I found a way to give them a glassy surface and make them look like porcelain chinoiserie pumpkins for cheap!
As we move around the room, there is the sweetest little child's chair that I
found in the dumpster and painted white
years ago when we lived in Tennessee. I don't have grandkids yet, but someday
a special little person will enjoy this little chair! I added a DIY
embroidered grain sack towel and a sweet little
woven pumpkin
to the seat.
The blue berry wreath I mentioned above was hung on an antique arch window
that we scored from a church that was replacing windows. I love the giant
statement it makes!
I added the
pom pom cheetah-print pumpkin pillow
I made last year to the sofa. The
blue painted trunk
holds all our files. Mr DIY retrofitted it a few years ago for hanging files,
and I love the space it gives me! It was simple to do, and just required
these hanging rails custom cut to fit our trunk. You can see how he did it
HERE.
Even though our
bohemian area rug
has no navy blue in it, I think it works so well in this space. I originally
purchased it for my
office/craft room, but as with everything else in our home - it's been moved! The rug is
currently on sale, if you're in the market for a new one -
CLICK HERE! The robin's egg blue hutch is now in the corner beside the sofa. It's great
for storing excess decor and even some craft supplies I don't use often.
Loved it? PIN IT!

Thanks so much Denise, yes it is! We bought it shortly after getting married in 1992...everything we owned was that orangey oak that was so popular back then!
