Hello friend and welcome to this month's Pinterest Challenge. Fall is in full
swing now and we've been enjoying all the cozy vibes this season brings!
Thanks to
Cindy at County Road 407
for choosing each month's theme. I'm sure you enjoyed her tips for decorating
a Fall porch without using mums!
I'm Cindy too and I love decorating my home for all the seasons! Mr DIY and I
are brand new empty nesters, and I've been crafting and decorating up a storm
to keep myself busy! We recently moved from Texas to a rental home in
Mississippi and it's been so fun to add my special touch to this home. Here
are a few of the projects I've been working on:
Today it's all about porches and patios decorated for Fall, and I can't wait
to show you ours!
Cozy Vibes on the Back Patio
This is a Pinterest Challenge, which means that Cindy has chosen an image from
Pinterest and our challenge is to create a similar look using our own items.
It's so fun to see how different each team member's images are! I hope you're
inspired to see how you can choose a few similar elements to decorate your
porch or patio for fall too!
Pinterest Challenge
Our inspiration this month comes from Rachel and Kevin Quenzer of
Sugar Maple Farmhouse. They've decorated such a welcoming and festive fall front porch, with
several cozy seating areas and vignettes.
Here are the elements I used on my fall porch
- rug
- chairs with pillows
- pumpkins
- mums
- black accents
- the colors of Fall
Our back patio is the area I chose to decorate. Unlike our previous home, we
don't have a front porch at our rental. But we have a nice, big patio in the
backyard! It's all brick and stone so the vibe is different than the cottage
feel of the inspo image (and our previous front porch!) but it's still easy to
make it cozy and inviting.
Start with a blank slate
Even though we've only lived in this home for 3 months, the back patio needed
a good cleaning (and purging) to make it ready for fall gatherings! You can
watch
this short video
to see the BEFORE and to see Mr DIY and I tackle this project.
Comfy outdoor seating is so important if you want to be able to linger
outside, and we brought these faux wicker chairs with us from our last home.
They're from Lowes but I can't find a link. What I especially like about them
is the built in seat cushion, which is very comfortable! I added some fall
pillows to cozy them up.
When I was decorating our patio for fall, the real pumpkins weren't available
anywhere yet. I brought some of my decorative faux pumpkins outside for these
pictures, and will probably switch them out with real pumpkins now that
they're readily available!
We were lucky to hit the mum jackpot at Home Depot and added two white mums to
our patio. As I'm typing this, the flowers have already died but Mr DIY and I
spent a few minutes deadheading each one, and I think we're going to get
another show of blooms, as there are flower buds!
Mums are tricky in the south because they need a lot of water in our hot
weather.
The inspiration image shows black accents and I added some of my own with
these inexpensive
Walmart lanterns, and some small side tables. Mr DIY's smoker fits right in lol!
Something else we added to our patio is
this wood burning steel firepit. It's been so fun to have a few fires already and I know we'll use this a
lot as the weather cools down! Now is a great time to get good deals on
outdoor firepits, gazebos, patio furniture and more! Make sure to use my

The solar patio lights we added are great once the sun goes down!
Finally, I cozied up our patio with a basket of throws, and a DIY fall wreath.
The inspo picture has a sign hanging on the house. My faux terracotta wreath
is made with
peat pots
that I got on clearance and was super cheap to make! Let me know if you'd like
a tutorial for it.
All those warm fall colors add to the coziness we created on our patio!

Cindy,

DeleteI had no idea you could get rugs (or decor) at Aldi. We don't have one close to us but I'm looking one up today! Love the colors and how inviting your patio is so I can see why y'all love sitting out there and chatting. Thanks for joining us this month!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I didn't really know either, until I saw piles of them on clearance!
DeleteI love your patio, what a wonderful place to sit, visit and relax. The firepit is a great idea, it will be perfect when the weather cools down. I love how you've added such fun vignettes, pillows and throws to create such a cozy inviting space.
