How to Make Paper Bag Witch Hats
These paper bag witch hats are easy and inexpensive to make. They're
surprisingly sturdy, so I believe if you pack them carefully away, they will
last for years! Not a bad return for $0!
Let's talk supplies. If you're a crafter, you likely already have everything
you'll need. If not, the supplies are minimal and ones that you'll be able to
use for numerous other crafts.
Supplies Needed
- paper bags
- white glue and hot glue
- black paint (I used this paint)
- coffee stain (mix 1 cup water with 1/2 instant coffee)
- cinnamon
- craft brushes
- cheesecloth
- rusty bells
- muslin or drop cloth scraps
- alphabet stamps
- black permanent ink for fabric (I used this ink)
Steps to a Paper Bag Witch Hat
- Cut shapes from paper bag and glue together (refer to video tutorial for details)
- Paint paper hat black
- Snip the bottom for easier display
- Brush with coffee stain and sprinkle with cinnamon
- Use a dry brush to remove excess cinnamon
- Wrap a strip of cheesecloth around brim, glue on some rusty bells
- Make a canvas drop cloth or muslin stamped saying and glue to hat

I found multiple ways to display the primitive style witch hat, stained with
coffee and cinnamon, and know you'll probably think of many more.
You may not be a fan of primitive style, and that's perfectly okay! Use my tutorial as inspiration, but make your DIY witch hat your own, with ribbon and embellishments that match your style and decor!
