Dollar Store Inspiration

You never know what you might find at dollar and discount stores. I love to shop with an open mind, and reimagine items I find. This double sided star can do double duty as well! Perfect to tuck into patriotic vignettes, it can also be used at Christmas. Here's what you'll need to make your own.

Supplies

*I used fabric because I had on hand. You can use either fabric or paper.

This patriotic star craft is so easy it hardly warrants a tutorial! You simply trace the star onto the fabrics, cut out and apply with mod podge. I like to brush a coat of mod podge to the top of the fabric, and then ink or brush a little dark paste wax to the edges to give it a little more dimension and a hint of primitive vintage vibes. If you're using paper, the steps are the same.

Wait until the first side is completely dry before working on the other side. When both sides of the star are dry, "paint" the edges with dark brown wax or ink.

And that's it! This patriotic star looks so cute tucked into your red, white and blue decor, no matter how simple!

Hot Tip: I paired the decorated star with vintage ironstone, old books, doilies and chippy spindles to emphasize the vintage cottage style that I am currently loving. However, depending on the fabric or papers you choose, you can add your own twist to this easy craft and make it yours!

A few red geraniums and my $5 chippy wood flag are an easy way to create a simple yet stunning patriotic display.

Or pair it with simple scrap fabric DIY flags and a weathered antiqued sign made from a poster (printable is free for subscribers!).

Paint a few small chunks of wood (use a number stencil) to create inexpensive blocks for the seasons.

I hope you loved this easy project that can work for all the patriotic celebrations coming up! I love a good double sided craft that can work for multiple seasons. My next patriotic craft will for all you primitive and vintage lovers - a simple way to add vintage style to brand new flags!
