Mug Rack Decor
A few months ago, I shared several tips for styling a wall mounted mug rack for all the seasons. I consider my black metal mug rack a decorating tool. It's so easy to switch out decor, and consolidating a collection together makes a bigger impact.
Case in point - my collection of terracotta pots. Many of my pots have been
painted white or aged
and distressed. Some of the flower pots have
hot glue scallops
that I added. I gathered them together and created a piece of art on the wall
by hanging the pots on the mug rack.
To take it a step further, I gathered a few of my houseplants and a chalk painted spindle chair to create a vignette around the mug rack.
Tips
- if needed, the metal prongs can be moved slightly to accommodate the pots
- add terracotta pots slowly and be sure they're stable (I had a few fall and break)
- include a few terracotta pot bases for interest
- mix and match painted and natural pots, or keep it monochrome
If your display looks a little bland, add some life with a pop of color. I
added a metal plate rack on my counter and filled it up with some of my
collected blue and white dishes.
This rack
is a different style but gives the same feel, and has room to display extra
items.
Add ribbon for a patriotic vibe
To make this vignette work for the patriotic holidays (or just for the
summer), simply add some ribbon.
I hung
this red striped ribbon
over a blue velvet ribbon. I also added one of the dollar store tin stars that
I made (tutorial is coming soon!). Nothing is permanent and it's all easy to
switch up or remove when I change my mind.
Another red striped ribbon was tied into a bow on the plate rack, and I added
a few more things as a nod to Americana....
- a wood cutting board for warmth and texture (also hides the wall outlet!)
- a round wicker tray
- a neutral rabbit with a velvet ribbon ( see similar here)
- a plant with a coffee stained flag ( see how to add a primitive look to flags with coffee)
- a stack of butter pats
- a beige striped ruffled towel
These simple additions add a cottage farmhouse Americana vibe that I love! A
mix of new and vintage is my favorite way to decorate vignettes.
Hot tip: Rather than purchasing season specific ribbon, I choose classics
like stripes and checks. That way I can use them during other holidays and
seasons!
I also added a strand of
fairy lights to the mug rack and terracotta pots. I love how it draws your
attention, and reminds me of summer fireworks!

I adore you patriotic touches! But I adore and NEED one of those plate racks! I can't find one like that anywhere. Maybe as you're packing things up, you just want to ship that on over to me?! ;) Hope you find the perfect place soon. Still praying for y'all!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy, appreciate the thoughts and prayers! Check my IG stories/ highlights for a link to the mug rack 😉
DeleteI'm not sure, but it looks like a pan rack that has been painted, the kind you can put lids or baking pans in. I've got a couple and I'm going to try it. Luck with yours - G'ma Pat
