Early Fall Bedroom Refresh Ideas
A few simple updates in your bedroom can help with slowly transitioning your home to fall using warm colors and cozy layers!
You might not be ready to jump straight into Fall decor, after all it is only
early August! And that's fine, I'm not quite ready yet either. Inching my way
there is satisfying me for now, while the temps are still so hot!
Adding a few cozy layers to our main bedroom is giving me some fall vibes
without feeling like I've gone all in, just yet! I'm going to share tips to
get this look and some insider secrets too!

My go-to Fall decorating accessory seems to be pumpkins, because I love to
make, recycle and decorate with them so much. You can
see all my pumpkin ideas here. There's nary a pumpkin in sight in our current bedroom view, but it is
sporting some cozy vibes. You'll find all the shopping sources below.
Idea #1: Layers
My #1 tip to creating cozy vibes, whether it's on your sofa, your bed or even inside your hutch, is to layer. Layering adds depth and interest to whatever space you're working on. Layering pillows and bedding on your bed gives not only cozy vibes, but also the feel of a high end stay! Don't we all want to feel like we're living in luxury every day.
Mr DIY is not so much a fan of the pillows and is known to toss them on the
floor! I have a system, lol, which involves strategic stacking at the foot of
our bed. You might think my bed takes me ages to make, but it really doesn't.
I timed it, and it was about 5 minutes! And when my bed is made, I feel
organized and ready to tackle the day! How about you? Do you make your bed
every day, never make it, or make it sometimes?
My bedding is also layered and I love how you see the ruffled duvet cover
below. Here are some tips for creating this look:
- Take the duvet out and just use the cover until you need more warmth. Our French linen duvet cover is the perfect weight, along with the sheet, for sleeping during summer months!
- Use a quilt that is a size smaller than your bed so that ruffled under-layer really shows (for reference, our bed is a King and the quilt I'm using is a Queen).
- Fold a coordinating blanket, throw or quilt at the foot of the bed to really cozy it up.
- Remove any unnecessary layers while you sleep.
- Blue for Fall? Why not! I use it all year long! Remember, it's your home. Do what you like!
Idea #2: Gingham
You might think of gingham as being too old fashioned for today's modern home. I'm here to tell you that it's making a big comeback (especially if you like to decorate with a mix of new and old) and is a perfect way to add cozy feels to your home! These Euro pillow gingham covers are from Amazon and very affordable. Of course I love the ruffles, but you can find them without ruffles too.
If you love gingham, go crazy with it! If not, just try a pop and see how you
like it. The warm beige color keeps it from feeling juvenile and adds a
beautiful layer to our bed.
Insider Secret: you might be looking at our bed and asking this question, "Where are the pillows that your head rests on?" They're there, I promise! I prop them upright against the headboard and then stack the other pillows against them.
Idea #3: Cohesive Color Scheme
I don't suggest going out and purchasing all new bedding, unless you need it!
Sometimes just buying one or two pieces can completely change the look of your
space. My early Fall color scheme for this room started when I found the brown
and white quilt at Marshalls. It was super affordable, and I love the block
print design and color. Last year I purchased the ruffled French linen duvet
set, which was pricier, so this year I didn't spend a lot.
When I decorate for Fall hard-core (if I decide to, I may not!), all it will
take is a pitcher of beautiful stems on the nightstands and one or two
pumpkins! They will fit right into this neutral color scheme that I already
have going on. And the blue? It's staying right there! Our curtains are blue
and I have no plans to change them for now, so I'm working with the colors
that I have.
I hope these ideas are inspiring as you think about decorating your own home
for Fall this year!

Cindy, I love your bedroom layers! The gingham and linen ruffles are fabulous. The combination of colors is perfect for this time of year too. I need to start some small fall transitions. Beginning with our bedroom. It looks terrible right now. I really like that you used 2 different Euro shams. Makes the bed look even more cozy. Happy almost fall!
