Decorating for fall with warm and cozy golden vibes throughout our seasonal cottage. Come step inside, take the tour and be inspired!
Welcome to my home! I'm so happy to share my decorated fall cottage with you today, and honored to join a talented group of friends. Thanks to Cindy of County Road 407 for hosting the tour today. You will be able to click over to all the beautiful decorated fall home ideas at the end of my tour. We have 11 friends sharing their seasonal homes today!

If you're visiting from Christy at Our Southern Home, I'm so happy to have to and I hope we become friends! Didn't you love the way she incorporated the 5 senses into her cozy fall home?

Some of you know that we're in a time of transition as Mr DIY is searching for a new job. It's taken much longer than we anticipated, and our faith is certainly being tested. For that reason, I chose not to unpack all my Fall bins. Instead, I purchased a few golden stems and relied on vintage pieces, velvet ribbon and handmade items to finish out my fall decor this year. I was expecting my home to look stark, but that is nowhere near reality lol!

Dining room fall decor

Let's start in our dining room, home to not one but two vintage hutches! Yes, I'm a dish addict and I love it! This year I've found several brown transferware pieces which I added to my primitive pine hutch. The brown is getting so hard to find. See that large tray? That's a transferware dupe. I don't have a tutorial, but I created it the same way I did my vintage transferware pumpkin that I made last year, decoupaging Spode napkin pieces to a painted tray.

And yes, I added a "crown" to my pine hutch, its this French Country piece from Antique Farmhouse. I loved adding this little architectural detail to the top of my hutch, it took the piece from just primitive to more French Country primitive! Of course, it would look fabulous above a doorway or bookcase too.

The table was dressed with a vintage crock filled with faux flowers, and scalloped dishes in a beautiful beige. My striped napkins were tied with velvet brown ribbon and I tucked a sprig of mustard berries into the center.

Across the room is my black painted hutch, which has already gone through a few transformations this season! It's currently holding some of my treasured vintage tureens, painted pumpkins and my DIY chunky tattered sunflowers that were so fun to make!

More feathery golden stems fill the crocks on my thrifted trunk. I stood it on it's side so it was taller and could hold some goodies! I love the cozy cottage vibes in this room!

Did you notice the new curtains? If you're looking to make one change in your home, consider curtains. They really finish a room off nicely!

Fall decor in the living room

Moving into our cozy cottage living room, I really kept the decorating minimal in here because this is where we hang. Mr DIY hates anything blocking that big 'ole tv screen (especially during football!), so I decorate around it.

To the right of the fireplace mantel (and big black box) I have my cottage white dresser that I refinished years ago. To give height to the wall above, I layered two styles of shutters, including these amazing arched shutters. My little primitive pie safe is a favorite piece, and I decided to display it with the door open so you can see some of my collection of vintage ironstone smalls.

The beautiful leaf stems in the antique bread box below add some of that golden seasonal glow that feels so warm and cozy, as does a burning candle. See that scroll piece on top of the white shutters? That is actually the top to my pine hutch. I prefer contrasts, which is why I hung it above the white shutters, and the pine hutch got the white piece.

On a recent trip to the thrift store, I scored this wood trunk for only $2.99. I think it was a toy box in its former life, but I thought it had great cottage appeal. I cleaned it up and changed out the feet for these beautiful carved ones. I plan to store pillows and throws inside the trunk. I'll need to sand the edges down a little bit, and I'm torn about whether to leave them natural or paint them to match the trunk. What do you think?

I normally don't keep decor on top of the trunk, but added some old books, candles and golden stems for fall. It helps to carry the colors throughout my open floor plan home.

I'm constantly changing decor and moving it from room to room. I added this gorgeous carved wood pedestal to the trunk for a simpler look! I topped it with a stack of vintage teacups and a thrifted glass cloche. My favorite bunny got a golden velvet bow. Nothing like a sweet sleeping furball to cozy up a space.
Millie is normally very happy and willing to pose for treats! She is so cute on her little vintage spindle dog bed, surrounded by pumpkins, ruffles and velvet bows.

Let's visit the kitchen next.

Kitchen nook fall decor

This little nook is a favorite area to decorate, and I'll already switched it up several times for the season. Here's how it's looking today. This wall always feels a little bland, and I realized it needed contrast! I brought the dark wood shutters over and love it! I hung my tattered fabric strip wreath and added these flameless tealights to my painted pumpkin Jack O Lanterns. I partnered with MacKenzie-Childs this season and will share more of my decorated fall table very soon on my Instagram feed.

A new neutral diamond shape rug from V-MAT was the perfect piece to ground our table and chairs in this nook. This company is wonderful to work with, and they'll custom cut any mat to size to perfectly fit your space! You can see my rug here, (use coupon code DIYBEAUTIFY15 to save 15% on anything).

Here's how this space looked a week ago. I added my rustic book page DIY sunflowers to thrifted white pitchers, along with blackberry stems, white berries and thrifted copper pieces.

The branch of Fall leaves on my table is made from brown paper lunch bags! If you'd like to see how easy they are to make, watch this short video.

There's one more space to visit on my cozy cottage Fall tour, and it's our main bedroom. I love to make it extra cozy in here during the "ber" months!

Layers of pillows and bedding give me that cozy feel that I love! The ruffled waffle weave blanket and matching pillow covers is a favorite, you can shop it here (use coupon code Cindy15 to save!) I like to read in bed, and the extra pillows provide much needed support for my back.

The fall vibes in here come more from colors and textures than specific fall items, although I did add a few of my book page sunflowers and primitive tattered chunky sunflowers to the baskets. These are nesting baskets and come in a set of 3 from Antique Farmhouse. You can see them here.

I have loved my blue toile curtains, but wanted to switch them out for something more neutral for the fall and winter. These beige toile curtains are by the same company, very affordable, and I love that the linen is a little heavier weight. I love the vines and pomegranates.

That finishes up my fall tour! Thanks for making it to the end. Debra of Common Ground is next on the tour and you can find all the links below so you can visit everyone! I love all the inspiration I gather from these home tours and I know you'll be so inspired.

  1. Cindy, First of all I pray that your husband finds a new job soon. That must be stressful. Your gorgeous fall home, I am sure brings you both much joy and peace. It is beautiful with the minimal fall touches you added this year. I wish I had know about that pediment before I hung my plates in the kitchen. LOVE it! The beds are stunning and look like a big, fall hug!

  5. Well done, my friend! I can't imagine a more beautiful place, even with dragging out the fall bins. The layers are what make me ooh and ahh. And of course, even Millie gets some decor on her new bed. I will open this post back up when I get to the farmhouse. I wish you lived close so you could help me decorate it. Because I get down there only a few times a year, I feel uninspired and restricted when it comes to decorating. Anyway, love your tour and all the inspo I've received. You are an amazing cozy maker! pinned

  8. Cindy, I love all the textures in your home with the shutters, the soft browns, tans and greens. Swapping the two hutch tops was a fun idea! I have one left from a piece we had and it just didn't make it when we sold Amy's vintage desk that she outgrew as she became a teenager (years ago now). I think I need to pull it out! :) Love your sunflowers and your bedroom!!!

Enjoy your beautiful home all decorated for fall,
    Hugs,
    Barb :)
