Easy Vintage Style Mini Stocking Garland
An inexpensive dollar store tile is painted and cut into stocking shapes. Strung with Christmas ball ornaments it makes a charming and vintage inspired miniature stocking garland.
Hey friends, have you been following along with my vintage inspired Christmas? The older I get the more I'm drawn to things with age, hehe. This sweet stocking garland was so inexpensive to make, and looks absolutely charming!
Make a vintage style stocking garland from a Dollar Tree embossed tile
This isn't the first time I've crafted with the embossed tiles from Dollar
Tree...I have a stash in my craft cupboard for when inspiration strikes! Last
year at this time, I used the embossed tiles to make these Christmas
decorations:
You'll need a few basic supplies to make the stocking garland, here's what I
used.

Step One - Trace and Cut
It's probably more efficient to paint the tile first, then cut out the
stockings. Because I was working with scraps, I cut my stockings from the tile
first. I traced the template on the plastic back of the tile, then cut them
out. The plastic will separate from the embossed bit.
Tip: while tracing the template, squeeze as many stockings as you can get
on a single tile, I flipped the template to have both orientations, as you
can see on my finished garland
Step Two - Paint
Two coats of chalk paint were needed to cover the silver.
Tip: I like to use a foam brush so I can pounce it and get paint into all
the crevices! As you can see, your painted surface doesn't need to be
perfect.
Step Three - Gild
The raised areas of the painted tile stockings are perfect for adding a little gilding, which really makes these look vintage and architectural! You can brush the wax on, but I found it easiest to wear a disposable glove and apply it with my finger. Plus, then there's no brush to clean! And who has time for cleaning right now anyway!
Tip: Don't overthink this bit! Just swipe the wax on with your finger,
rubbing a little along edges...it's nice if not every stocking looks
exactly the same!
Finally, and this step is optional, I hot glued neutral fabric remnants to the
back of each stocking. An ivory felt would probably be easier bc then you
won't deal with fraying edges. You can see below that without the backing, the
stockings looked quite messy after the painting and gilding. If you're
planning to gift this garland, a finished back is nice.
To hang the stockings, I cut a length of jute cord, tied on small ball
ornaments and strung the stockings in between using mini clothespins to hang
them.
I absolutely love how charming the mini stocking garland looks hanging on
these layered shutters!
The colors coordinate with my vintage inspired tree, and it's just a beautiful
little spot in our living room! The tabletop trees are handmade, you can see

ADORABLE! Happy Thanksgiving!
