I know you're probably like me - the Halloween decor is put away, you're ready to move on to Christmas, maybe you even have a tree up. But Thanksgiving is a special time that you don't want to overlook. So what do you do?

It may feel strange to have turkeys and pumpkins out while you're decorating your tree. I have learned to embrace this mingling of seasons. Rather than keep them separate, I think there is beauty and joy in mixing the two seasons. A lot of people I know put up a tree and enjoy the twinkling lights during their Thanksgiving meal, then they decorate it once Thanksgiving is over.

You do you. Don't feel rushed into the season by why you see happening in stores and online. Do what feels right for your family! It's your home. There's no judgement ❤

Okay wait, maybe there's a little judgement, lol! My family has mocked me for the last decade or more that I've been blogging. When I explain that I'm a blogger and have to be ahead in order to provide inspiration and ideas, they get it. But they still laugh at me when I'm hauling the tree into the house in October! I've learned to ignore them...and make them cook their own dinner 😈😉

Moving on...

Please don't stress about setting a pretty Thanksgiving table, I've got some tips to help you. They're fun, easy and can even be incorporated into your Thanksgiving celebration as something to do together!

Tip #1 - cute and cozy layer

No matter what table you'll be using, adding a nice layer is the first step to an effortless Thanksgiving! I found this brown gingham tablecloth with a deep ruffle. It's totally me, I love the charm and romance of ruffles and gingham is timeless. The tablecloth is available in many different sizes and colors!

It does look like the brown is out of stock, but there's a beautiful sage green and black that would still work.

If you noticed, I got a new rug. It's actually a high quality vinyl mat that is super easy to clean and is perfect for dining areas. I love the classic diamond pattern, and the company is super easy to work with if you need a custom size made for your space. You can find out more here. Tip #2 - Mix and match dishes

Don't stress if you don't have enough dishes of the same kind to feed your crowd! I set my table with beige dinner plates, and placed a turkey themed paper plate on top. These are the exact plates I purchased, along with the matching napkins which I have used to make some matching decor.

I also added some brown stonewashed linen napkins, tied in a loose knot, to each place setting. You'll see another layered stripe napkin under the dishes. I think layering is the perfect way to add interest to a table. You can do more or less, but it's fun to play with pieces you already have!

Tip #3: Easy centerpiece

If you want to get elaborate, you can make a pumpkin centerpiece like I did last year. This year I kept it super simple, relying on these flameless tapers and a reproduction sugar mold to create an easy centerpiece that is striking in its simplicity. I shared my tips for using candles in a sugar mold HERE, along with several ideas to carry this look right through the 'ber' months!

To add to the theme, I made simple salt dough turkeys, and tucked them into the base of each candle. So fun right? The pumpkins are also salt dough, you can watch me make them, and get the recipe HERE. If you have the dough mixed up ahead of time, invite your family to make pumpkins and/or turkeys!

Or if the thought of having to add one more thing to the oven stresses you out, you could  make them ahead of time and use the turkeys as cute name tags. Write the names on with white puffy paint (allowing several hours of dry time) and set them on each plate. Your guests will love to take them home!

Remember I said that I used the paper turkey napkins to make some decor? The candles, tray and pumpkin are all made using the same napkins. I just chose different parts of the napkin for each project. These simple decoupage projects are all so easy, and I've got a tutorial for each one!

Thanksgiving decoupage ideas:

I have started collecting vintage brown transferware, but it seems like everyone else is collecting too, so prices are very high and it's hard to find at the thrift store. These decoupaged pieces, using the brown and white napkins, gave me the look I was wanting at a fraction of the price!
