Handmade Bookpage Valentines Decorated Frame
Our inspiration this month is from
Dorene. It's a beautiful, vintage-style frame decorated with hearts. You'll see
lots of trims and lace and scraps, even little bits of greenery.
Inspiration Image
I challenged myself to use items I already had at home to create my soft
shabby pinks version of this Valentines decorated frame.
Elements I chose:
- white vintage style frame
- shabby style
- lots of trims
- patterned hearts
- rose themed paper
Here's another look at my version, and then I'll show you how I made it.

the best prices!
Supplies I used:
- thrifted frame
- floral patterned scrapbook papers
- book
- vintage sheet music (here's an alternative)
- ribbons and trims
- stamps and ink
- pinking shears
I also used the following decorative elements, which are ones I've made and
shared previously. You'll find those tutorials linked below:
My frame was perfect for the shabby vintage look I wanted. It was just an
empty frame, so I cut out a piece of cardboard to size and covered it in a
floral paper. I was able to just pop it into the frame and it made a snug
fit.
Decorative Papers
I am a recovering scrapbook-aholic lol! When my kids were little,
scrapbooking was my crafting therapy and I have the scrapbooks to prove
it!
On a side note...my kids have never been interested in looking through
their scrapbooks, but over Christmas my daughter asked to see hers...it
was so fun to see all the kids (and their spouses) laughing and commenting
on hairstyles, clothing choices, etc as they flipped through the
scrapbooks!
I sold or gave away most of my scrapbook supplies years ago, but I kept my
large stash of decorated papers. I have several 12x12 books of paper by
K&Company. They are filled with beautiful florals and coordinating
prints. I used several of these papers to make my Valentines.
Book pages
My heart shaped Valentines are made from paper. The bookpage and vintage
sheet music Valentine is layered with a bookpage heart, then a sheet music
medallion, and topped with a smaller bookpage heart. I cut the hearts out
with pinking shears to get that decorative edge.
Small alphabet stamps were used to create a Valentines sentiment that I
glued to the top.
Trims
My other heart is made from floral paper that coordinates with the paper in
the frame. I used ruffled trims to add a decorative border, gluing the trim at
the back.
Insider tip: Did you know? Inexpensive crepe paper can be ruffled on the sewing machine! Fold crepe paper ribbon in half. Set machine with longest stitch length and increase the tension. Sew right down the middle and watch it ruffle.
Once my paper hearts were made, I hot glued them to the frame. I added some
small
vintage inspired DIY clock faces
that I made, as well as a single coffee filter peony in the opposite corner.
The Valentines decorated frame is a piece of art! I love the soft, shabby
vintage vibe. I propped it up in my office next to some white ironstone, a
vase of more peonies, and little cement birds.
I'll be sharing how I made their little glittered crowns in a future tutorial.

Your Valentine's art turned out so pretty! Yes, ex-scrapbooker here, too...is it any surprise we're creative bloggers now? Love your art sitting in front of that gorgeous crazed ironstone plate:)
ReplyDeleteYou make me wish I were more sentimental and would have saved my kids things from when they were little. Just think how your kids (and spouses) would have laughed looking at things from our days?! LOL. My mom had a huge bouffant hairdo that I still think is funny. Love your craft! It's perfect. pinned
