Beatrix Potter Inspired Cottage Style Fabric Carrots
Cottage gingham and white chenille handcrafted carrots in the Beatrix Potter style, perfect for a cottage Spring table.
In fact, for the last few days I've been a one-woman carrot making factory ๐
Not the edible kind, but the decor kind! These handcrafted carrots have all
the Beatrix Potter feels, and I'm sure that naughty bunny Peter Rabbit will be
making an appearance sooner or later, you just wait!
I love the combination of vintage chenille with the other cotton fabrics,
especially the
orange gingham! Gingham is timeless and so quintessentially cottage.
You might be surprised to hear that this hobnail chenille used to be a
bedspread, but I used it to have an antique armchair professionally recovered.
You might have seen that chair featured in
my Magical Vintage Christmas living room tour.
I've been putting the chenille remnants to good use, with handmade
chenille pumpkins, a tiny sweet
heart garland, so why not beautiful, large and chunky carrots with luscious tops?

I love making crafts like this that are unique and not mass-produced. Do you
get tired of seeing the same decor items in everyone's home?
By making things myself, I can control the size, color and design.
If you're interested in making your own carrots, I have both a written
tutorial and a YouTube video where I walk you through the steps. At the time,
I used inexpensive
canvas drop cloth
to craft my carrots. Visit
Vintage Style Drop Cloth Carrots for Spring for the step by step pictorial, and visit
THIS POST
to watch my video tutorial.
I've refined my original tutorial slightly, with the following modifications:
- I sewed the carrot together on my machine
- I used a combination of rice and polyfill inside the carrots and hand sewed the top shut
- I stamped tags that I attached to the carrots with these mini safety pins, rather than stamping directly on the carrots
I am enjoying the oranges for Spring this year, and you'll be seeing more of
these carrots on my Spring table.
Here are some additional tips if you want to craft your own cottage style
Beatrix Potter carrots.
- Use natural fabrics (cotton, canvas, etc)
- Stuff carrots as full as you can, but take care not to burst the seam!
- Be sure to glue or stitch the top closed tightly to keep the stems intact
If you love crafting for the seasons, be sure you're subscribed because I have
so many fun and beautiful projects coming up! The garden seed peat pots, bunny
stamped eggs and cabbages are all tutorials that I'll be sharing soon.
