Valentines Day is this week, how has it come so quickly? I've had our home
decorated for awhile but didn't get a chance to share everything I've
done...time flies 💕💝
I hope by watching me decorate our home for Valentines Day, it sparks an idea for
you! Seasonal decorating has become kinda my thing. I don't know how long I'll
continue to embrace it and go "all in", but for now, in this season in my
life, I'm loving it!
What I don't love is filling my home with commercial, mass-produced pieces and having a home that looks like everyone else's! So today I'm sharing ideas for decorating for Valentines Day - with a twist!
What's the twist?
My hope is to inspire you to see past what your items are
supposed to be used for, and see them with fresh eyes! Decorating for
the seasons can be as simple as shopping your home, a few simple crafts, and
gathering thrifted finds.
I'm currently in my Grannycore, Vintage Era, lol! I am really drawn to
everything old that has a story, and I've had success at the thrift store finding
unique pieces to fill my home, while not spending too much.
In our kitchen, I splurged on this vintage inspired countertop pie safe
a couple years ago. It's the perfect size to fit on your kitchen counter, and
I love to decorate it differently for the seasons. I added a heart shaped
copper cake pan that I found at my local thrift store.
More Valentines decorating ideas:
- fill a glass jar with pink and/or red ornaments (more Christmas to Valentines ideas here!)
- decorate with bottle brush trees
- make a tattered fabric heart wreath using strips torn from a sheet
Decorating for Valentines day can be cheap! Don't believe me? A quick trip to Hobby Lobby for
some felt sheets and DMC embroidery floss...and the result was these sweet
embroidered hearts that cost pennies to make. I may have had to refresh my
memory with a few YouTube tutorials (it's been a long time since 8th grade
Home Ec!), but in the end these were really easy to make, and I only used the most basic embroidery stitches.
There are so many uses for embroidered felt hearts...they could be ornaments,
or coasters, or a garland...but I used them to decorate a simple Valentines table.
I kept out a small white Christmas tree, and made some tiny felt heart
ornaments to fill it. Watch the simple process HERE. It made the perfect centerpiece for our table. Keeping with the vintage
theme, I wrapped the base of the tree with a vintage doily and placed it in an
ironstone tureen. The scalloped wood heart (see similar
HERE) is
from Hobby Lobby.
I carried the theme to my pine hutch, making some lightly stuffed embroidered
hearts. By hanging the hearts from a length of twine, I was able to add Valentines appeal to a plain wreath.
If you have a collection of white dishes or pitchers, decorate with them! Just a pop of
pink from
these inexpensive DIY ornaments
adds subtle Valentines charm.
Back in the kitchen, I use another ironstone tureen and filled it with bottle
brush trees in ivory and
pink for
easy Valentines decor. There's no rule that says these trees should only be used at
Christmas! And even if there was, decor rules are made to be broken!
