Valentines shelves are a fun and colorful way to display your items en masse. Visually, it's very appealing and you don't need to go out and buy hundreds of dollars worth of Valentines products. Use what you have and make what you don't! Keep reading for all my ideas.

We have this large set of built-in shelves in our living room. Over the holidays, I decorated the shelves with a gingerbread theme. That post was so popular that I decided on a Valentines theme by reusing some of my Christmas decor. You can see more details on repurposing Christmas decor for Valentines in THIS post.

But here's the thing...I don't have much Valentines decor. My Valentines decor is made up of smaller items I've made.

So how do you decorate shelves, or a cabinet, for Valentines?

You shop your house! The trick for me was using quilts, some larger wood display pieces, DIYs and the cutest retro inspired Valentines Day cards I found on Amazon for less than $6 for a set! I clipped the Valentines to a piece of ribbon with mini clothespins.

I don't own any Valentines day quilts, but I do have a couple red and white quilts. One is a vintage cross stitch quilt I found on Etsy, and one is a red check lap quilt that reverses to a Christmas scene ( this one is currently on huge after Christmas clearance, only $30)!

The quilt you see with the pink checks and red flower is a cutter quilt I thrifted for only $5! There's only one red flower, so I folded the quilt with that side facing out.

I also had a vintage white chenille bedspread that I thrifted this year for super cheap. That made good filler between two more colorful quilts. The stacked quilts filled up shelf space while adding Valentines Day color.

Two large baskets fill the top two shelves and are great for storing out of season items.

The two wood pieces were both thrifted. I painted the plate rack white, and it holds some thrifted red vintage transferware dishes and smaller ironstone plates.

The little red and pink wood hearts were gifted to me from Valery Madelyn, you can shop them here on Amazon.

The tall wood shelf holds some smaller ironstone pieces (I love ironstone all year!), as well as the cutest vintage DIY Valentines Day bottle brush trees I made. I added my black check Mackenzie-Childs pitcher and love how the black grounds the rest of the decor.

During recent chilly evenings, I've worked on several easy embroidery hearts. Once you master the basic stitches, all you need to create beautiful heart decor is some felt and DMC floss! I took Home Ec in the 8th grade, and it was amazing how all the instruction came back to me lol!

If you want to make something similar but need more instruction, here are some wonderful directions you can purchase:
  • this kit is what I based my designs off (directions only)
  • THIS gorgeous kit includes everything you need to make vintage French hearts
  • this kit contains all the supplies to make a beautiful wool felt heart with flowers

These colorful, whimsical Valentines shelves have filled that need for some cheer after the Christmas decor was packed away.

I hope I've inspired you to reimagine your decor and to shop your home and come up with your own ideas for decorating Valentines shelves!
