How to make garden inspired peat pots

I created the free heirloom veggies printable seed packets, perfectly sized to
the 3" peat pots that I used for this project. Fill the peat pots with faux
veggies and sprinkle them around your home for Spring! Or fill with candies,
eggs, a small plant or veggie seeds and use as mini Easter baskets or gifts
for guests.
Supplies
- 3" seed starting jiffy-pots ( THESE are the exact ones I used)
- creamy white chalk paint ( THIS is my favorite)
- seed packet printables - I'm including both a black and white, as well as a colored version
- instant coffee granules
- foam brushes
- matte mod podge
Step one: paint peat pots
Give your peat pots a quick coat of white chalk paint. I opted to do a lighter
coat and leave some of the peat pot exposed (this is easy to accomplish
because of the texture of the flower pots).
Painting the pots white really emphasizes that wonderful texture, and produces
a vintage style with very little effort.
Step two: prepare printables
While the painted peat pots are drying, go ahead and print the heirloom veggie seed packet printables. Please note: All my printables are FREE to subscribers, you'll find the link to my Printables Page in every email I send out.
If you want to add an aged look to the seed packets, mix up some coffee stain
using instant coffee and water.
Optional, you could use cooled tea or leftover coffee.
Use the foam brush to give the printable a brush of cooled coffee stain,
allowing a few drips to fall in places.
Insider Tip: For the first try, I cut the seed packet printables out and then stained each one. However, I found it easier to actually brush the entire sheet with stain before cutting into individual seed packets (see below).
I think it's easier to control the amount of stain when you're working with a
full sheet of paper. The stained paper takes a few minutes to dry, and you can
easily speed this up with a blow dryer or a
heat gun craft tool.
The printable seed packets were custom sized to fit perfectly on 3" peat pots.
Step 3: attach printables
Using a clean foam brush, brush mod podge onto the backs of the printables and
secure them to the front of the peat pot. Brush a little more mod podge on the
top to seal, and allow to dry.
Once dry, the heirloom veggie peat pots are ready to fill and decorate with.
Adding a little crinkled paper in each pot allows the contents to display
better. I am using crinkled paper I made using vintage sheet music (you can
read how to do this
HERE).
The distressed green wood crate that Mr DIY and I made is the perfect Spring color to display these heirloom veggie packet decorated flower pots! I bundled some Dollar Tree carrots in groups of three to
add to the flower pots.
