5-minute Statuary Figurine Makeover

A little rub n buff is all you need to give your concrete statuary a simple update! A fun and easy way to get a completely new look!

Rather than buying something new, why not reimagine something you already own?

I've had these cement looking bird statues for a few years, but never decorate with them. I guess I just don't like the dull concrete look. I was about to donate them, but decided to give them a simple makeover using rub n buff instead.

Easy statuary update

Here's how these bird figurines looked before their makeover. As you can see, there's nothing wrong with them. I just didn't like the finish.

I could have painted the figures, but I decided to use some rub n buff to give them a little more flair and interest. If you've never used rub n buff before, you're in for a treat. It's a gilding wax that can totally transform nearly anything in just minutes. A little dab goes a long way.

Rub n Buff: My favorite rub n buff color, and the one I reach for again and again, is the antique gold. I have the gold leaf color as well, but it was a little too bright and shiny for this application.

I have a stiff craft brush that I use for applying the rub n buff. You can also just use your finger or paper towel. I didn't go for full coverage, just mostly hit the raised areas with the gilding wax. I did go back and add a little more.

I think it's always good practice to start with less when you're transforming something with paint or wax...you can always add more but it's very difficult to remove once it's on there!

This process just takes minutes to apply the rub n buff. Then you use a soft rag to buff the wax to set it and blend it a little.

Here's a look at the before and after. The gold rub n buff just makes these little concrete birds look a little prettier!

My birds look a little more glamorous now with their gold accents! I have a concrete style bust planter that I'm going to make over in the same way.

But if you think these bird figurines are cute now, just wait...

I made some mini glittered crowns for these bird statues that turned out so cute! Be watching for that tutorial in the next few days!
