Easter Bunny Basket From a Dollar Tree Crate
Turn a Dollar Tree crate into a sweet customized Easter basket. It's the perfect size for a few eggs or small treats and will make the sweetest gift!
I've had a few of the Dollar Tree wood crates for several months, with no idea
what I wanted to do with them. Then I found a package of the little wood
bunnies and the idea for a sweet Easter crate/basket was slowly percolating in
my mind.
Today I created the Easter basket and it turned out even better than I
imagined!

It can be difficult to find Easter crafting supplies at the dollar store right
now, they always sell out so quickly! If you're not successful, you can PIN
this project to save it, and revisit it next year when you shop early and find
all the good stuff!!
Here's what you'll need, and I'll break down the steps I took below.
Supplies
- wood crate from Dollar Tree
- package of wood bunnies (I couldn't find them to link on DT, but they're available on Amazon)
- gift bag with a stiff handle
- acrylic paint (I used this color)
- foam brush
- hot glue
- scissors
- ribbon (I ended up using a different ribbon, as you'll see below)
Supplies for tag:
- alphabet stamps
- black ink (I like this one)
- brown kraft paper
Steps to make basket
- Start by painting the wood crate. This wood is thirsty and you'll definitely need 2 coats. Set aside to dry while you work on the handle for the basket.
- I racked my brain to come up with a stiff handle that would hold its shape, and this was my solution. Tear the handle from a craft bag, you'll just need one.
- Hot glue ribbon around the handle. I used a 1" strip of fabric in blue and white that I had.
- Hot glue the handle to the basket, and tie additional ribbon around the ends if desired.
- Hot glue bunnies around the long sides of the crate. I found 4 fit perfectly.
- Stamp a little tag to hang from the handle.
- Fill with crinkle paper and add treats.
This little Easter basket turned out so cute and doesn't look like it came
from the dollar store! Fabric is a great substitute for ribbon. I always tear
it so I get those perfectly fringed edges!
If you cannot find the bunnies to surround the basket, you could stamp the
sides of the crate, or wrap ribbon around the crate to add some Easter color.

Fill with treats for the kids. You could add a candle and a little treat if
you gift to an adult. I'm sure you can come up with something!
Hope you love this thrifty dollar store project!
